July 13, 2016 — “We applaud the Senate’s passage of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) today. With passage from the Senate as well as the House last week, we’ve achieved a major public health milestone. For the first time in decades, new legislation has been sent to the President’s desk aimed at preventing and treating opioid misuse, addiction and overdose and supporting people in recovery. With more than 120 Americans dying of drug overdoses every day, we urge the President to sign this legislation quickly so that it can become law.
However, our work here is not yet done. It is critically important that money be appropriated to ensure this legislation can have a meaningful impact. We look forward to working with Congress and the Administration to continue to expand access to treatment and provide needed resources to combat the opioid misuse and overdose epidemic.”
