On June 2, 22 U.S. Senators sent a letter to letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell asking for greater access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Specifically, the bipartisan group of senators asked Sec. Burwell to increase the highest limit on the number of patients waivered practitioners can treat with buprenorphine from the current 100 patients to 500. The letter was in response to the Department’s request for public comment on its proposal to raise the cap from 100 to 200 patients.
